But I Don’t Like Spam
I remain
convinced that there are two solutions to spamming:
1.
Everyone stops using e-mails.
(This will happen if they don't
get on top of the problem)
2.
Filtering.
The Spammers
might well be able to hide themselves away from the law, by sending
their mail via Outer Mongolia or hijacking innocent computers but
they can't hide the content of their mail.
If you've
ever opened a Spam mail then you will know what I mean the contents
gives its self away, straight away. It's either "Get Rich Quick",
"Nina Loves You" or something unutterable. So surely it follows that
if you can build up a sufficient amount of data on the contents of
the Spam e-mails you can build a profile of a Spam e-mail allowing
you to eliminate almost all Spam from your In Box.
There are
many pieces of software an the market all designed to filter out
unwanted e-mail messages but I recommend Aladdin's Spam.

use expect the Junk to start to fill your bandwidth by Christmas
this year.
F.A.Q.
Question If I get Broadband I’ll be
swamped by junk emails.
Answer - Having broadband will
not increase the amount of junk mail, you get junk mail anyway.
The logic behind this myth is that,
you have an always-on connection, with a fixed IP address, and
therefore spammers will be able to target you more easily.
‘Always-On’ refers to the fact that your PC is always connected to
the Internet, whereas when you use a modem, you are connected only
when you dial up. The IP address refers to a unique number used by
computers to find each other, like a global postcode. Most dial-up
internet users do not have a fixed IP address, but having a
broadband connection often means fixing an IP address for the place
where you are connected.
This is where fact ends and fiction
starts. Junk emailing is not managed by looking for IP addresses or
always-on connections; it is done by collecting possible email
addresses in any number of ways. If you have an email address and
have rarely used it, then you will get little junk mail. If your
email address is on loads of mailing lists or is listed on websites,
you will get lots of junk mail.
If, on receipt of a junk email you
have clicked on the link to unsubscribe… bad news. By doing so you
have just informed the spammer that you really do exist, and you’ll
be on their lists for life.

| so
what can I do if I don't like spam. |
| Never click on any links in a
junk email, just delete it.
Don’t sign up to any newsletter
groups or sites without reading there Terms and conditions. i.e.
do they share there data with others.
You can run one of a number of
filter programs designed to filter out spammers such as
www.mailwasher.net its
free just visit the site for more details.
If building your websites or
displaying your email address on line you can try a number of
ways to disguise your e-mail all pretty effective.
a) phil
at macseyco dot com
b) Use
this javascript to hide the @
<script
language="Javascript">
<!- Begin
user = "phil";
site = "macseyco.com";
document.write('<a href=\"mailto:' + user + '@' +site + '\">');
document.write(user + '@' + site + '</a>');
//End ->
</script>
c)
You could try getting a @hotmail.com or @yahoo.com address
although in past years these have been the heaviest sufferers of
spam they both now seem to be getting it licked well almost.
But I’m sorry even if you take
every precaution you will still get spam its inevitable no
matter what steps programmers take, the natural law on the
internet is if you can code it you can un-code it.
